Yangebup Progress Association Inc. |
The Yangebup Progress Association has been going for over 25 years as a forum for residents to have their say and as a group to liaise with the City of Cockburn and other groups to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents as well as making it a pleasant place to be. Yangebup has been blessed with two lakes on either side of Osprey Drive. Little Rush Lake on the northern side and Yangebup Lake on the southern side. Both lakes have walkways all the way around and the Yangebup Striders walkers often walk along the tracks admiring the wildflowers. The Friends of Yangebup Lake continue to work hard to maintain the weeds and replanting of the flora and several times a year have wildflower tours as well as Bird Walks in conjunction with Birds Australia. There are several schools in Yangebup offering a variety of educational standards. There is also the Yangebup Family Centre, which the YPA Leisure Group Ladies call home. This centre caters for pre school children with Playgroup as well as Playclub and kindy sessions. The Community Health nurse also has her office in this vibrant Centre which the hard working and dedicated staff maintain. There are several churches in Yangebup and the Yangebup Community Hall. The local shopping centre in Moorhen Drive has an IGA, newsagency, hairdressers, chemist, and a variety of take aways including fish and chips, Mr Spaggs, Chinese and Indian takeaway. The busy local medical centre is also at these shops as well as a dentist. A liquor store, another hairdresseres, a take away and deli as well as Chooks are at another local shopping precinct on Yangebup Road. Yangebup has some excellent local parks, they include Ronsard Park, Visco Park (where it is proposed a bowling club will be built) Levi Park - lovely bush near the railway lines, Pereena Roche Reserve with its duck lake as well as Milgun Reserve and Nicholson Reserve where the local footy team has its clubrooms. The YPA continues to work hard and all residents are welcome to come along to the meeting for their input and support. |
