Friends of the Cockburn Wetlands Education Centre

 History of the Friends

The Friends of Cockburn Wetlands Education Centre was founded jointly by Jim Connolly and Dr.Brian Smith in 1993.  Brian held the position of Vice President for many years. He stepped down in 2009 due to his advancing age and he sadly passed away on December 3rd 2009. In the early years of the Centre's history the members assisted with tree planting, wetland education, fundraising and scientific research.

The first Annual General Meeting was in October 1995. The first successful grant that the Friends applied for was in 2005.  Applying for grants continues to be a major focus of the Friends group.
