Welcome to the Bibra Lake Residents Association

About Bibra Lake

The suburb of "Bibra Lake" takes its name from the extensive lake within its boundaries. The existence of the lake was first reported by AC Gregory during a survey of George Robb's land in May 1842. Gregory recorded the Aboriginal name of the lake as "Walubup". During the following year, Benedict Von Bibra, surveying his own selection on the southern shores of the lake, recorded the name as "Walliabup" and the latter version was used exclusively on maps for more than half a century. In 1877, it was found that Von Bibra's association with "Lake Walliabup" was apparently still recalled by locals who referred to the feature as "Bibra's Lake".

In 1898 Bibra Lake was reserved for recreation and all applications to lease land were strenuously opposed by the Fremantle District Roads Board, which was given control of the reserve in 1902. Tearooms were erected and the Reserve became a popular venue for picnics and sports. Which still hold true today as the lake is a popular with many people and families who enjoy walking or riding bikes on the bike paths around the 6km lake which also provides access to bird hides, there are also various playgrounds situated around the lake with BBQ facilities close by.

Bibra Lake as a suburb was established in 1967 and is part of the City of Cockburn with approx 5,954 people calling Bibra Lake home.

Bibra Lake is also the location for several major private and public recreation facilities such as Bibra Lake Regional Playground, Adventure World theme park, Bungee jumping tower, Cockburn Ice Arena, Paint ball, Laser tag operations and the brand new Walliabup skate park located on Bibra drive. Every Saturday at 8 am starting from Progress drive Bibra Lake is the very popular 5km Park run around our beautiful lake.
