Aubin Grove Community Centre

Philippa advised the centre is expected to open in early May 2010, however a date has not yet been set for the opening. It is expected Council will hold a small official opening some time in June, after the Hammond Park sporting facility opening. Philippa recommended we hold our own event rather than wait and that the Council would be able to allocate some funds to our Opening Day event. We are looking at combining our June meeting with an opening event, pending the actual opening of the centre. Ideas for event to be discussed at next meeting once we have further details. Terry to put in an advance request for our meeting times at the new venue.

AGRA Sign

Location not yet decided due to limited approved sites. Harvest Lakes sign at Russell/Gibbs can not be used as too many signs could be a traffic hazard and would not be approved. Potential to revisit HL sign location but this could take time. Community Centre can not be used as sports clubs already have dibs on the site and ours can not be added as this would be too many signs. Only approved site is Rowley Rd, but being the end of Aubin Grove it may not be seen by many. Possible location could be on the corner of the new school, however due to a water sump this would also depend on Water Corp approval. Another location suggested at the new shopping centre on the corner of Gaebler & Lyon Rds, subject to landowners permission. Di to provide Philippa with leasing contact. Philippa to further investigate suitability of school and shops sites.

Treasurer and

Vice President

Need volunteers for Treasurer and VP.  Treasurer more necessary than VP although both roles can be combined.

Terry has been in contact with past Treasurer Viv who is back in Perth. Viv will be handing over treasury items to Terry.

Application for incorporation was sent off by Terry on 22 March. Processing could take up to 12 weeks.

Newsletter

Sharmaine has put together a draft newsletter, however we are awaiting the dates on the Community Centre before printing and distributing. Aubin Grove Medical Centre will advertise – Sharmaine to follow up.

Shade Sails and BBQ’s in parks

Letter sent to Council regarding BBQ’s in parks. Terry received a reply stating the Council has approved funds in the budget. However, this has been stalled due to LWP not following through on their commitment to provide half the costs. Terry to send a copy of letter from LWP stating they will fund 50% to LWP to prompt action on their behalf.

Cockburn Community Development Group

Terry attended last CCDG meeting where the CEO of the shire spoke about the 10 year plan for Cockburn. This is available on the Council’s website and is currently open to public submissions.

New entertainment books available mid May and Di has ordered 20 initially.

• Letter has been sent to CCC requesting play equipment in Aubin Parklands parks
• One bus shelter has been erected on Lyon Road with more to possibly follow as funding allows.
